Statue and Monument Dedication
On May 26, 2012 the Paulding County Confederate Memorial Statue and Monument were dedicated. Steve Thrasher put together this video of the event:
The program of the Dedication was as follows:
The assembled guests were called to order by Wayne Willingham, Camp Commander of General William J. Hardee Camp #1397
The Honor Guard, led by John Lawrence, posted the Colors
Boyd Austin, Mayor of Dallas and Member of the General William J. Hardee Camp #1397, welcomed the assembled guests
The assembled guests had the extreme honor of being introduced to Mrs. Iris Lee Gay Jordan. Mrs. Jordan is the daughter of Corporal Lewis Gay, who fought in the Battle of Dallas as a member of the 4th Regiment of the Florida Infantry.
Wayne Willingham, Camp Commander of General William J. Hardee Camp #1397, gave the Keynote Address. In his address Wayne listed the Units formed by Paulding Countians, the Battles fought by Paulding Countians, the sacrifices made by Paulding Countians in the War, and the Paulding Countians who gave their lives fighting for what they believed in.
Steve Thrasher played "Amazing Grace" for the Dedication
Stevan Crew offered the Dedicatory Prayer
The Honor Guard, led by John Lawrence, gave Musket Salutes. Patrick Peterson played Tattoo.
Mrs. Iris Lee Gay Jordan led the assembled guests in the singing of "Dixie"
